This commemorative £5 Crown-sized coin celebrates the Sapphire Jubilee (65th anniversary) of accession to the throne of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Royal Mint says:
"In her long reign Her Majesty The Queen has marked Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilees and the nation has celebrated with her each time. The parties and parades, the public ceremonies and private festivities in homes across Britain are part of many happy memories. Official jubilee coins are important reminders of these special times and as The Queen reaches an unprecedented milestone of 65 years since coming to the throne - the first and only British monarch to celebrate a Sapphire Jubilee - the Royal Mint has created an official UK coin to mark the moment.

At centre, a depiction of the Imperial State Crown with the inscription MY WHOLE LIFE, WHETHER IT BE LONG OR SHORT, DEVOTED TO YOUR SERVICE in seven lines to the left of it; it is a quote from the Queen's speech on the occasion of her 21st birthday (21 April 1947).

The crown is rotated (relative to traditional renderings) to better display the 104-carat blue sapphire known as the Stuart Sapphire near the bottom.
