This commemorative £5 Crown-sized coin celebrates the christening of Prince George, the first son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Prince George of Cambridge (George Alexander Louis) was born on 22 July 2013. He is the eldest child of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and third in the line of succession to the British throne behind his grandfather (Prince Charles) and his father. As he is one day expected to become king, his birth was widely celebrated across the Commonwealth realms.

Prince George was baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Chapel Royal at St James's Palace on 23 October 2013. The font used at the ceremony was made for Queen Victoria's first child and the water was taken from the River Jordan.

The obverse shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the date: ELIZABETH · II D · G · REG · F · D FIVE POUNDS. Translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith, followed by the value and denomination in English.

At the centre of the reverse, surrounded by the representation of a silver lily font (the vessel where the prince was baptised), between two cherubs, a crowned Baroque-style cartouche bearing on seven lines the inscription To celebrate the Christening of PRINCE GEORGE of CAMBRIDGE above the date, 2013.

Around below, on a ribbon is the motto of the British monarch: DIEU ET · MON DROIT (Translated from French: God and my right).

The designer's initials JB (for John Bergdahl) are in small letters in relief under the letter E of DIEU.
