2002 Gold Proof Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Shield, Royal Mint Box & Certificate of Authenticity.

7.98 grams of 22 carat Gold.

Mintage: 12500 Proof Finish.

The obverse of the coins shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits. In small letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).

Around the effigy is the monarch's legend: ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRA REGINA · FID · DEF. Translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith.

Reverse:

Within a wreath of laurels, the crowned Royal Arms of the United Kingdom. The shield is quartered, depicting in the first and fourth quarters the three passant guardant lions of England; in the second, the rampant lion and double tressure flory-counterflory of Scotland; and in the third, a harp for Ireland.

The designer's initials TN (for Timothy Noad) in monogram are in the right field. The date 2002 is below the ribbon tying the wreath.
