Sometimes listed as a "Quintuple Sovereign" (five sovereigns).

At the centre of the obverse is the first portrait of Elizabeth II, as designed by Mary Gillick in 1953, the year of the Coronation. Eight horse-mounted trumpeters surround the Queen's head, with swords and sceptres separating them in a repeated pattern around the portrait.

Around, the monarch's legend: ELIZABETH II DEI · GRATIA · REGINA · FID · DEF; translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith.

Note that the value and denomination, · FIVE POUNDS ·, are on the obverse, around below. 

Reverse: At the centre of the reverse is St. Edward's crown, used at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, surrounded by 40 trumpets to symbolise her 40 years as the monarch.
