His left hand clutches the rein of the horse’s bridle, and he does not wear armour, other than on his lower legs and feet, with his toes bare. The saint’s horse appears to be half attacking, half shrinking from the dragon, which lies wounded by George’s spear and in the throes of death. The point of a spear is broken off in the dragon’s side; the shaft lays on the ground behind the horse.

The Queen’s Beasts heraldic statues representing the genealogy of Queen Elizabeth II stood in front of the temporary western annexe to Westminster Abbey for the Queen’s coronation in 1953. Each of The Queen’s Beasts consists of an heraldic beast supporting a shield bearing a badge or arms of a family associated with the ancestry of Queen Elizabeth II. They were commissioned by the British Ministry of Works from sculptor James Woodford. The statues were uncoloured except for their shields at the coronation. They are now on display in the Canadian Museum of History. There are other statues of the Queen’s Beasts, sometimes referred to as the King’s Beasts, at Hampton Court Palace and Kew Gardens in London, and on the roof of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.

 In 2022, The Royal Mint unveils a special edition that commemorates a historic royal event – Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Since 1952, The Queen has carried out her royal duties with unwavering grace and dedication, honouring the promise she made in a televised speech where she pledged her ‘heart and devotion’ to the nations of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth. The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee marks a milestone in a truly remarkable reign and a feat of such eminence deserves special commemoration.

To honour this achievement, which we likely won’t see again for centuries, the 2022 Sovereign features a rare change in reverse design and instead displays an interpretation of the Royal Coat of Arms by the esteemed heraldic artist Timothy Noad, which makes this his third reverse design for The Sovereign.

In the ground below, a thistle, Tudor rose and shamrock are depicted, representing Scotland, England and Ireland respectively. Unlike the Lion of England, this beast is uncrowned.

This commemorative gold one-ounce coin celebrating The Who is the fourth in the Music Legends coin series by the Royal Mint; earlier coins commemorated Queen, Sir Elton John and David Bowie.

The Who are an English rock band formed in London in 1964. Their classic lineup consisted of lead singer Roger Daltrey, guitarist and singer Pete Townshend, bass guitarist and singer John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon. They are considered one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century and have sold over 100 million records worldwide. They are cited as an influence by many hard rock, punk rock and mod bands, and their songs still receive regular exposure.
